Liz Hyde, PE, LEED AP – President
As President of Hyde Engineering, a certified woman-owned DBE, Liz manages all aspects of project management including design, cost estimation, construction administration, proposals, survey analysis and much more. She earned her bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in 1983 and her master’s in Civil Engineering from UAB in 2009. She founded Hyde Engineering in 1995 and during her career she has designed, managed, and/or coordinated more than 2000 projects ranging from small renovations to new multi-building complexes. She was recently appointed by the Governor of Alabama to serve as a member of the Alabama Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors and is the current president of the UAB Engineering Advisory Council. Other society memberships include: ACEC, NFPA, IES, SBCCI, IEEE, and ICC
Russell T. “Rusty” Hyde, P.E. – Senior Engineer

Rusty earned his bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in 1983 and earned his master’s in Electrical Engineering from UAB in 2007. Prior to his joining the firm Rusty served as a navigator in the United States Air Force. During his 18 years of progressive electrical engineering experience Rusty has managed more than 1000 projects ranging from small renovations to new facility construction. He specializes in the areas of security, fire alarms, data/voice and computer systems for institutional, scientific, and technical facilities
David Morrow – Senior Electrical Designer
As senior electrical designer for Hyde, David manages the entire project process including interface between the client, vendor, design professional and the construction team. He has more than 40 years of experience in the design of electrical systems. Commercial and institutional facility experience includes hospitals/healthcare, government, military, criminal justice, office buildings, worship facilities, schools, universities, laboratories, banks, museums, entertainment venues, eateries, athletic facilities, aviation, automotive dealerships, apartments, retail centers, and manufacturing facilities.
Hannah Payne, P.E. – Electrical Engineer
Hannah joined Hyde Engineering in 2011 as an electrical designer. She has a bachelor’s in Polymer and Fiber Engineering from Auburn University (2011) and a Master’s in Engineering from UAB (2014). Hannah handles project design, site observations, and client interface. She is an experienced designer and project manager with technical skills in both AutoCAD and REVIT.
Josh Whittle, E.I. – Electrical Designer
Josh joined Hyde Engineering in February of 2017. Josh is a certified Engineer Intern and graduated Cum Laude from Auburn University in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. He gained a year of construction experience while participating in the Cooperative Education Program at Auburn. Josh also has prior experience in the nuclear industry; he worked on design projects at 6 different nuclear plants across the southeast.
Kerry Pesnell – Senior CAD Operator
Kerry has been with Hyde Engineering for 21 years. He earned his associates degree in Applied Science for Engineering Drafting Technology and has over 23 years of experience in electrical, architectural, mechanical and civil design. Kerry is the company’s go to guy for AutoCAD and REVIT.
Morgan B. Reyes, P.E. – Huntsville Office
Morgan comes to Hyde Engineering from another Huntsville firm where she worked for five years as an electrical engineer. Prior to that, she worked as a project manager for an electrical construction company where she discovered her passion for engineering. She earned her Bachelor’s in Engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville and also has a Master of Science in Early Childhood Education. She knows the area well and brings experience working with local architects, engineers, and construction firms.
Noor Obaid – Intern
Noor began his education at UAB in 2018. He joined Hyde Engineering (Jan. 2020) as part of the Alabama Small Business Alliance Project (ASBA). The program was designed to provide unique collaboration and experiences to the students as well as the small, owned businesses in the Birmingham Area. The program offers unique employment opportunities and real-world experiences pertaining to the students’ fields of study. With experience in Excel, working knowledge in AutoCAD, and many courses under his belt, Noor joined Hyde Engineering until the ASBA program was terminated due to COVID-19. Shortly after, he rejoined Hyde Engineering as he continued his studies at UAB. He is expected to graduate Fall 2022 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Kristen Strange- Office Manager
Kristen joined our team as office manager in 2021. Her responsibilities encompass many aspects of our business, including AP/AR, payroll, job tracking and customer service. Kristen graduated with an Associate in Applied Science in Computerized Accounting and she has earned other certifications in the accounting field. She is the friendly voice that our customers hear when calling our office, and she takes great pleasure in making sure they are each taken care of.
Will Taylor – BIM Specialist
Will joined Hyde Engineering in March 2021. Will earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Building Construction from Auburn University’s College of Architecture, Design, and Construction in December 2020. Will works as our Electrical Production Tech utilizing AutoCAD and Revit modeling.
Ryan Cagle - CAD Operator
Ryan joined Hyde Engineering in 2020. Ryan graduated from Drake State Community and Technical College in 2020 with an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Engineering Design. He is now pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and will graduate with the class of 2024.
