Hyde Engineering also specializes in lighting and power design for medical facilities. Our projects range from new construction to renovations of highly specialized treatment units.

UAB Tinsley Harrison Fire Alarm

Designed a new code-compliant fire alarm system to replace the existing system that was original to the building built in 1982. The building is approximately 130,000 square feet with labs, classrooms, and office space. The building had to remain functional during the construction process.

UAB Student Health Services

Renovation of existing 23,000 square foot building. Electrical design included lighting and auxiliary systems that are health oriented.

UAB’s Women’s Children & Infant Center

Hyde has provided design for several renovation projects in the UAB WIC building. These include renovation of existing space for bio-med lab and storage; fit-out for anesthesiology offices; and a doctor’s office. Design included lighting, power, emergency power, and fire alarm.

UAB MEB Neurological Intensive Care

The renovation at UAB’s MEB included turning existing office space into space for UAB Neurological Intensive Care Area. The design included new electrical systems with new power feeds from the existing hospital, and a new emergency generator for the hospital to accommodate new emergency loads. The electrical design included the components necessary to accommodate state of the art patient monitoring systems.

Renovation of existing hospital for new patient rooms. Design included lighting, power, fire alarm, emergency systems and nurse call systems.

HealthSouth Hospitals

Hyde has done repeated lighting design projects for HealthSouth hospitals across the southeast including: a new 40-bed hospital in Memphis, TN, new 20-bed addition to existing hospital in Treasure Coast, FL, eight patient bed addition in Rock Hill, SC, and 22-bed addition in Panama City, FL. Each project included design of normal and emergency power systems, fire alarm systems and nurse call systems.

Hyde has done several projects with SAMC including both first and second-floor renovations. Scope included the addition of cardiovascular procedure rooms, a 28-bed observation unit, new inpatient diagnostic suite and a new main entrance. Electrical construction cost was approx. $1.8 million.

Electrical design for new 5,000 square foot Full Modality Diagnostic Clinic for the New Orleans VA Hospital. This post-Katrina project was fast-tracked which required close coordination with all design team members. Numerous projects for Birmingham’s Veteran’s Hospital including renovation to first floor for radiology equipment addition; renovation to existing electrical for new HVAC system that serviced a new cardiac surgery suite, and design for a new CT scan installation.

UAB McCallum Renovations

The project is the renovation of approximately 40,000 square feet of research

laboratory type space and infrastructure upgrades. Work includes updated electrical design to meet current codes and technology infrastructure needs. New power distribution, lighting, lighting controls, fire alarm, and IT will be delivered on the renovated floors, New infrastructure includes new switchgear and emergency system controls.

 

UAB School of Dentistry Second Floor Renovation

UAB Dental Lab

Electrical design for 17,000 square feet on the second floor of the School of Dentistry. Electrical design included new flexible lighting space, power to new dental suites, digital cabling and emergency power systems. The project is phased and required partial occupation during construction.

 

UAB Chemistry Building

Tenant fit-out of a 31,000-square foot facility for teaching and research. Project included lecture rooms, faculty support space, and lab space. Electrical design included power, lighting, fire alarm, security system, and working data. Hyde also performed the renovation of the 3rd floor chemistry lab space, which included lighting, power, fire alarm, voice/data cabling, UPD, and service upgrades.
